Shira Honig

Shira Honig has worked on environmental policy issues in both Canada and the United States. Before coming to Islands First, she worked at the intersection of biodiversity and poverty with the UNDP’s Equator Initiative in, on environmental entrepreneurship and development at EcoVentures International in Washington, D.C., and on raising awareness of local and national environmental and other policy issues as the Toronto chapter co-chair of Canada25, a national policy group for youth in Canada. As a recent graduate of New York University’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, where her focus was on international environmental policy, Shira has researched and written on a wide variety of subjects, including Chinese environmental law and China’s role in climate change, climate change and the Amazon basin, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, wildlife migration in Tanzania and Alaska, and agriculture in Mexico.

Shira’s coursework while at Wagner included classes at NYU Law and the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. In addition to a master’s degree, she holds a BA in History from York University in Toronto.
